- Contact the local VA hospital or clinic to determine if the Volunteer Transportation Network services are available in your area. Contact information for the desired VA hospital or clinic is available on the VA website or by calling 1-800-827-1000.
- If Volunteer Transportation Network services are available, then submit a from the DAVrides.org and a DAV representative will be in contact with you to confirm your reservation.
- If unable to use the online service, then call or email the designated DAV representative to reserve transportation.

Our team is here to help as many veterans as possible get to their appointments safely and comfortably. Transportation service is guaranteed to all prospective passengers, and to reserve Volunteer Transportation Service, veterans or their case managers must following procedures:
Cancellation Procedures
If a veteran's transportation reservation needs to be cancelled, then contact the designated DAV representative as soon as possible to allow the seat to be made available for another veteran. The following procedures apply:
The Volunteer Transportation Network service is available to ambulatory veterans of all ages, income levels, and backgrounds. In addition, the veteran must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Passengers must be a U.S. Military Veteran (we honor all branches of the military).
- Passengers must be ambulatory and able to enter and exit the vehicle without assistance, or have a caregiver to assist them.
- Passengers must have a scheduled non-emergency medical appointment with a VA hospital or clinic.
- Passengers who use the VTN will not be eligible to receive reimbursement for travel expenses.
Code of Conduct
Passengers are expected to follow established guidelines. Any passenger that refuses to comply with the guidelines will be denied transportation. These guidelines include:
- Passengers must be ambulatory with the ability to board and exit the vehicle without the driver's aid.
- Passengers may bring an ambulatory companion to ride in the vehicle with them (advance notice required).
- Passengers must wear seat belts in the vehicle.
- Passengers are not permitted to use foul language or distract the driver.
- Passengers may not ask the driver to make side trips to take care of personal business.
- Passengers are not permitted to smoke, consume alcohol, or use drugs while in the vehicle.
- Passengers are not permitted to bring weapons or any illegal substance into the vehicle.
- Passengers may only bring items that can fit in their lap or be stored under the their seat.
- Passengers must be dressed and ready to leave at their scheduled time.
Safety Guidelines
The safety of passengers and drivers are our top priorities. The DAV vehicles are not emergency vehicles, and the following guidelines must be followed:
- Drivers may refuse to transport passengers that appear to be too ill to ride in the vehicle.
- Drivers are not required to provide transportation to passengers that intoxicated, abusive (verbally or physically), or who poses a threat to anyone in the vehicle.
- Drivers will not wait for passengers that are not ready to leave at their scheduled time.
- Drivers are only allowed to stop the van for rest stops, emergencies, and to pickup or drop off passengers.
- Drivers must adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Drivers will not provide medical assistance or advice.
- Drivers will have a communication system in place to contact emergency services, if necessary.
- Drivers will ensure the vehicle is in good working order and well-maintain while in-service.
Reservation Procedures
Our team is here to help as many veterans as possible get to their appointments safely and comfortably. Transportation service is guaranteed to all prospective passengers, and to reserve Volunteer Transportation Service, veterans or their case managers must following procedures:
- They must contact the designated DAV representative at their VA destination via the online reservation system, email or by phone to secure transportation.
- Reservations must be made 7-days in advance of the VA medical appointment.
- They must provide the passenger's name, contact information, appointment information, and any special instructions or accommodations required for safe travel.
- On the day of the scheduled pickup, passengers must be ready to leave at the scheduled pickup time.
- Drivers will notify the passenger of their arrival at the designated pickup location.
- If the passenger's schedule changes, then notify the designated DAV representative as soon as possible to seek accommodations.
- Lastly, curtesy is must. Be sure to thank the volunteer drivers, and the DAV representatives.
Cancellation Procedures
If a veteran's transportation reservation needs to be cancelled, then contact the designated DAV representative as soon as possible to allow the seat to be made available for another veteran. The following procedures apply:
- Cancellations must be made at least 24-hours in advance of the scheduled pickup.
- The passenger's name, contact information, and transportation reservation details must be provided.
